We usually write the strip on Discord, and so it came to pass that while we were doing so Discord wanted to remind me that I had been using Discord with their “Checkpoint,” which is a kind of Wrapped. There are all these different wrappeds and they’re wrappin’ up all these crazy kinds of shit.
Mork went invis on all his services after I kept texting him about the song that was playing. For my part, I just liked the song and I also liked him so it seemed like a great time to jump in. For him, it meant that he could sense me in the hairs of his neck, like I was under the couch or peering at him from a closet. He felt Surveilled, essentially. And he was! In 4K HDR. Live Presence and Wrapped all exist in a continuum of perpetual data collection, scrutiny, and judgment. These are all fun ways to say their songs know what you did in the dark.
So anyway, when I saw the thingy up there I was like, “Shit man, it’s good fucking thing there isn’t a GrubHub Wrapped because I would not emerge from that presentation with a heroic patina.” So then we made a strip about that otherwise secret shame, and gave it to the world? It wouldn’t be the first time I guess, but it’s probably a tendency I should unpack with a professional.
