This Is Why a Texas Neighborhood’s Streets Are All Named After ‘South Park’ Characters

Imagine purchasing your dream home on a street named after the 10-year-old boy who once fed a teenager a batch of chili made out of his parents’ processed corpses.

Well, that’s the reality for some folks living in Garland, Texas. As a South Park fan recently pointed out on Reddit, the town, which is located within Dallas County, contains a number of streets named after characters from the long-running Comedy Central series. In addition to Cartman Road, there’s also Garrison Way, Mackey Street, and McCormick Street, which was presumably inspired by Kenny’s surname.

And while there’s no Stan Avenue or Mr. Hankey, the Christmas Poo Circle or Trump’s Tiny Dick Boulevard, there is a Crabtree Street named after the South Park Elementary school bus driver who was brutally murdered by a serial killer in Season Eight.

Why does this Texas town have so many streets named after foul-mouthed cartoon characters?

Well, South Park isn’t the only pop-culture property to be referenced by Dallas County roadways, there’s also a “Star Trek Lane,” “Robinhood Drive” and a “Sgt. Pepper Court.”

As The Dallas Morning News explained, most new streets in Dallas are named by “real estate and subdivision developers.” And with road construction booming, “naming city streets has become a challenging endeavor.”

Avoiding duplicate names of streets is a genuine safety concern since it’s easier for emergency vehicles to make their way to roads with unique designations. This means that not every real estate developer is able to get new names approved by local governments.

So when the Summerfield Addition subdivision was built between 2001 and 2003, shortly after South Park’s 1997 debut, the streets were named after characters created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone because there was little chance of them overlapping with any pre-existing street names.

This means that if someone were to have, say, a massive heart attack in the town of Garland, living on the street named after the guy who once tried to assassinate Kathie Lee Gifford just might save their life.
