Greenland 2: Migration has premiered to a range of reviews from critics, earning an underwhelming score on Rotten Tomatoes. The sequel shifts from global catastrophe to post-apocalyptic survival, continuing the Garrity family’s journey through a devastated world.
Greenland 2: Migration reviews aren’t all positive
Greenland 2: Migration received a mixed response from top critics, with a combination of fresh and rotten scores. Nate Richard (Collider) rated it 4/10, stating, “there’s not much more you can do with this story, and upon watching the movie, you can clearly tell they were reaching with this one.”
Simon Thompson (The Playlist) gave it a C+ and commented, “I’m not sure we needed to take this journey.” David Ehrlich (IndieWire) rated it a C, calling it “a far more generic and action-oriented movie than its predecessor.”
Other critics highlighted strengths despite their reservations. Derek Smith (Slant Magazine) rated it 2/4. He wrote, “Greenland 2 plays out as a much more generic thriller than its predecessor.”
Robert Daniels (New York Times), however, gave a fresh review. He said, “Though this sequel’s brisk plot hits familiar postapocalyptic beats, Waugh strikes them with immense force.” Courtney Howard (Fresh Fiction) awarded it an A-, noting “the immersive, gorgeously rendered visual effects have gotten bolder and the stunt work has gotten more palm-sweat-inducing.”
Jonathan Sim (Comingsoon) wrote that Greenland 2: Migration “shifts its focus from the immediate terror of apocalypse to the uneasy reality of survival after it,” and is “set five years after the Clarke interstellar comet devastated Earth.” He added that director Ric Roman Waugh “grounds large-scale disaster filmmaking in physical danger and human vulnerability,” while noting the sequel “doesn’t quite match the relentless intensity” of the first film.
