Denis Villeneuve’s Dune 3 has received an exciting production update.
Before he makes the next James Bond movie for Amazon MGM Studios, Villeneuve will helm the third film in Warner Bros. Pictures’ Dune franchise, which so far includes 2021’s Dune and 2024’s Dune: Part Two. Villeneuve directed both of those movies, while there was also a television spin-off series, Dune: Prophecy, developed by Diane Ademu-John and Alison Schapker that premiered in November 2024.
What is the latest update on Dune 3?
Per World of Reel, production on Dune 3 has now officially begun, as the movie is now filming in Budapest.
The news has Dune fans more excited than ever before to see Villeneuve’s Dune 3, which is expected to be an adaptation of Frank Herbert’s 1969 Dune Messiah novel.
Timothée Chalamet will reprise his role as Paul Atreides in Dune 3, while the announced cast also includes Zendaya as Chani, Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan, Jason Momoa as Duncan Idaho, Nakoa-Wolf Momoa as Leto II Atreides, and Ida Brooke as Ghanima Atreides.
There were also reports circulating around the internet that Robert Pattinson was being eyed to play a villain in Dune 3, though that casting has not yet been confirmed.
A description of the Dune Messiah book reads, “Dune Messiah continues the story of Paul Atreides, better known—and feared—as the man christened Muad’Dib. As Emperor of the known universe, he possesses more power than a single man was ever meant to wield. Worshipped as a religious icon by the fanatical Fremen, Paul faces the enmity of the political houses he displaced when he assumed the throne—and a conspiracy conducted within his own sphere of influence. And even as House Atreides begins to crumble around him from the machinations of his enemies, the true threat to Paul comes to his lover, Chani, and the unborn heir to his family’s dynasty…”
