Bright Eyes frontman Conor Oberst was the subject of a celebrity lookalike contest in his hometown of Omaha, Nebraska, on Friday night. The event, which organizers say started as a joke, morphed into a benefit for the local youth music education group Omaha Girls Rock. There was emo karaoke, and the first 40 people in attendance received a single American Spirit cigarette.
As for the contestants? Well, none of the participants looked even remotely like the Bright Eyes frontman—except for Oberst himself, who stopped by to surprise the winner with a bag of his clothes.
Editor’s Note: Read our recent interview with Oberst and Mike Mogis on the 25th anniversary of Bright Eyes’ Fevers and Mirrors.
